SCWPM Catalog No.: P-S292

Denomination: 100 Bolivares

Condition: Very Good, slight splitting top and bottom of vertical center fold, slight split at center of note. Pleasing for the grade.

Description: Black of brown and blue-green underprinting, vaqueros and cattle at center, flanked by large “100”s in guilloche. Back brown with coat of arms at center with bank title. This note is from the Provisional Issue of 1919 from this bank, noted as such by the overprint in the upper right portion of the central vignette which reads “Pagadero en las Oficinas del Banco” and also by the fact that the words “en Caracas” are blacked out in the bearer clause. This was to indicate that the note was payable at any branch of the Banco de Venezuela, not just the main branch in Caracas. It is likely that this note was P-S288 which was overprinted and reissued. Engraved by American Banknote Co. Ex Ponterio & Associates Auction #152, Lot 5794, where it was incorrectly catalogued as P-S293. Listed only as Rare in the SCWPM.
