Description: Black on bluish-grey paper, profile of Liberty at left. Reverse black, Aztec calendar at center flanked by denomination. This note is part of the Mexican Revolutionary issues known as “cartones” or small pasteboard (like posterboard) fractional notes. This note was issued by General Venustiano Carranza after he had established the first revolutionary administration in Mexico City. In September of 1914 he decreed that 130 million Pesos of paper money shall be issued. An additional 3 million Pesos was to be issued as these fractional cartones to make up for the shortage of circulating coinage. This note measures 59mm x 22mm.
