Description: Black on yellow and blue underprinting, portrait of Manuelita Garcia Teruel at left, central vignette of seated female with tropical surroundings, bank title above, denomination below. Reverse blue, Banco Nacional building at center. The Banco Nacional de Mexico still resides in the building. Red overprint on face “Billete Sin Valor” (Biil of no value.)
In 1934 this bank issued special books for its 50th Anniversary. Within each book was an example of the face and reverse of each note from 5 through 1,000 Pesos. The red overprint would be on the side which was not displayed. Thus, this particular note was a reverse example since the face has the overprint. Most of these notes, such as this one, were removed from their books of issue. This is why this note has the remnants of mounting on the left margin. Complete books with all of the notes intact are extremely scarce.
