Country: Germany
Issuer: Kingdom of Westphalia
SCWPM Catalog No.: P-S810
Date: 31 December 1819
Denomination: 5 Franken
Condition: About Uncirculated, exceptional paper quality, handcut.
Description: Black on white parchment-like paper, uniface. Arms at top center. As stated in the Standard Catalog, these notes are quarterly interest coupons issued by the kingdom’s debt amortizations treasury. The red stamp at lower center represents the acknowledgement of Prussia to honor the notes, as Prussia incorporated Westphalia in 1815 at the Congress of Vienna. Prior to 1815, Westphalia was a state of the First French Republic founded by Napoleon, which is why these notes are denominated in Franken (Francs) and not Marks as would be expected. Hand numbered and dated. A very high quality example.
