Description: Black on light red underprinting, uniface, small black circular treasury stamp on reverse. This popular series is a military issue of the Mexican Revolution, and although the note states the issuer as the General State Treasury of Chihuahua, they were issued by the famous General Francisco “Pancho” Villa, whose name appears on the front of the note with the title of Provisional Governor of the State. These banknotes were issued primarily to pay Villa’s troops and to cover his military expenses. This is a very well known series of Mexican Revolutionary banknotes.
