About Us

Specialized Currency is the only numismatic firm dealing primarily in banknotes known as “Specialized Issues,” as found in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money© Volume One, in addition to other privately issued banknotes, scrip, and fiscal paper.

While we offer many scarce and important banknotes in collector grades, we also pride ourselves on being able to offer notes for the novice or intermediate collector. The collecting and studying of banknotes is a truly noble pastime that should be accessible to all of those who wish to participate. We work to offer quality notes at reasonable prices (see FAQs for more info.) We also pride ourselves in providing background information on the various banks and institutions that issued these notes. We hope you will find our product listings informative and insightful. We enjoy researching and passing that information on to you, the future owner of these treasures.

Banknotes are not just “old money.” They contain links to history, economics, culture, and art. In what other collectable object can you find something that:
·         circulated during a historic period of a particular nation (as most specialized issues did)?
·         was an object of value that had purchasing power?
·         has symbolic or actual representations of a region’s beliefs, industries, and traditions?
·         was designed and produced by an engraver likely trained in fine art?

The answer is that only a banknote has all these things in one!

We hope you can feel our passion for numismatics, specifically banknotes. We respect the hobby and hope it brings you as much pleasure it has brought us. Enjoy browsing our inventory!!

We are proud to be a member of the following numismatic organizations (whose links you can find at the bottom of every page):
·         Society of Paper Money Collectors (SPMC)
·         The International Banknote Society (IBNS)
·         Latin American Paper Money Society (LANSA)
·         The American Numismatic Association (ANA)
